ABOUT DAYCARE STRESSLESS


This site was inspired by the work of Melanie Osborn, author of the book,  "In-Home Daycare Provider's Guide for Stress Reduction", written to help in-home providers eliminate, decrease, and reduce stress in their personal and professional life and helping to empower them to live happier and healthier lives. Her background includes being a single mother and daycare provider, a medic in the army and a paramedic in civilian life, a massage therapist and yoga instructor, and presently works as an author, professional speaker, and life coach.

Melanie became a daycare provider after realizing that she was going to be a single mother.  She wanted to have her own business to have the flexibility of raising her daughter, and wanted to help people in some way. She chose massage school, but had to find an innovative way to stay home with her daughter during the day so she could attend school at night.  She moved to Omaha, rented a three bedroom house, got a roommate, and started a daycare.  She thought: "how hard could it be?!?!"

But the stress of running a daycare, going to school, raising a child alone, and normal life
started taking its toll.  She looked for resources for stress reduction for daycare providers, but didn't find the right things to inspire her and help her get through the days.  She dealt with it the best that she could reading self-help books (and watching Oprah!)
.  She suffered severe allergies, headaches,
back pain, depression, chronic fatigue, and complete burnout.


When her daughter had severe reactions to her immunizations and became very ill,
things started crumbling around her. She looked for any resources that she could get her hands
on to get her daughter and herself  feeling better.  She read books, used trial and error,
and prayed and cried a lot.  Her doctors had no answers, so she slowly and hesitantly
turned to holistic and alternative medicine.

As she slowly got her daughter feeling better, she worked on herself.  She finally graduated
massage school and discontinued daycare to start her practice as a massage therapist
and began helping others with their health.  All of these events prompted her to start life coaching to help others have the strength and information to make changes to better their health and their lives.

A few years into her practice, her daughter began suffering from severe stress disorders
from extreme sensitivity resulting from her profound giftedness  She was forced to
choose homeschooling her daughter to get her back feeling better and balanced.  Again, she
decided to get back into daycare, but this time used her knowledge and took a more holistic route. 
She decided that this time she would use and integrate the alternative healing methods that
she had learned to provide less stress in her daycare environment and business.

She taught her daycare children yoga, meditation, and stress management techniques
;
provided a lower stress environment in her home with several types of holistic methods,
honed her business practices to eliminate stress with parents and policies, and learned to
really take care of herself so that she could decrease her stress and fully enjoy her life
within her hectic schedule and circumstances.

She started writing it all down and eventually it became a book.

Now, her mission is to bring stress reduction and wellness information to all in-home daycare providers so they can lead happier and healthier lives.

Melanie Osborn holds a private practice in Omaha, Nebraska and travels speaking and writing.
