BODYTALK

What is it?

DEFINITION AND EXPLANATION OF BODYTALK

The BodyTalk System is based on the premise that the body has an innate ability to heal and repair itself from physical wounds and illnesses.  This system works to readjust the body’s systems so they can fulfill this function.  The practitioner begins this process by locating the body’s sluggish energy paths.  Because the body is the ultimate expert in itself this identification is done through muscle testing techniques.

What is it used for?

CONDITIONS BODYTALK MAY BE HELPFUL FOR

- Harmonization of the various bodily systems including the twelve significant organs and eight endocrine glands.

- Removal of negative influences held within the body, including environmental toxins, bacteria, and viruses.

- Reduction or reversal of externally caused or genetically induced cellular-based illnesses.

- Improvement in a multitude of physiological aspects of the body including breathing, hydration, and coordination.

- Removal of physical pain through the harmonization of 36 exterior energy points. Such synchronization can restore components of physical and emotional health.

- Removal of prior and current emotional blockages, lessening or freeing one from fears and phobias.

Where did it come from?

HISTORY OF BODYTALK

The BodyTalk System is an alternative healthcare paradigm founded by Dr. John Veltheim, an Australian chiropractor, traditional acupuncturist, philosopher, and teacher. For fifteen years he supervised a healing clinic specializing in acupuncture and chiropractic medicine in Brisbane, and was later involved with the Brisbane College of Acupuncture and Natural Therapies. His extensive post graduate studies have included applied kinesiology, bioenergetic psychology, osteopathy, sports medicine, counseling, comparative religion and philosophy.  Along with his wife Esther he instructed numerous seminar participants in techniques such as Breakthrough, Reiki, and BodyTalk.  John founded the BodyTalk system and together, they co-founded the PaRama College.

Veltheim began studying martial arts at age eight, and was a karate instructor for many years.  He trained in Zen meditation, and in 1967 began practicing Transcendental Meditation. Because he had been helped with karate injuries by his chiropractor, Veltheim began his healing career by attending a Melbourne chiropractic college, graduating in 1973.  He continued to study various energy and alternative therapies, seeking a system of health that everyday people could implement themselves. He began experimenting with tapping into his own personal chi (vital energy) to help patients heal, but was disappointed to realize that it quickly became exhausting. He noted he could not teach others to heal themselves this way, and became resigned to the idea that there was no system of energy healing that could be tapped into by all.

Veltheim's first Reiki attunement, with its access to universal life force energy, however, changed his mind. Veltheim practiced reiki for about 5 years and used what he learned about the energy system and healing to develop BodyTalk.

What is it based on?

THEORY OF BODYTALK

BodyTalk sees the "bodymind" as made up of a series of interactive system of circuits. On the physical level, the muscles, bones, nerves, organs and other systems; on the energetic level, the chakra system, meridians, qi, etc. and on the emotional level, feelings and thoughts.  All these systems are operating on various frequencies from lowest to highest, or gross to subtle.

The major tenet of BodyTalk is that the bodymind cannot function at its peak when specific trigger points are not interacting harmoniously with each other.  By reestablishing these communication channels energy can be freely transmitted through the body, resulting in peak health.

The essential tenets of BodyTalk include:

1.  Direct Communication

Utilizing a system of muscle testing, the practitioner asks the body a series of yes and no questions.  To accomplish this the practitioner uses a technique called “muscle testing” commonly referred to as “applied kinesiology”.

2.  Breath of Life

Other methods of holistic healing such as yoga emphasize the importance of the breath in physical health.  Similarly, BodyTalk uses the breathing cycle sequence to connect bodily systems such as the brain and heart with the protocol.

3.  Tapping

When important trigger points on the body are touched in conjunction with tapping of the head, the brain is directed to the trigger point and mends the weakness.  Other methods involve tapping the breastbone which allows a new memory of health to be captured by the mind and body.

The mixture of breathing and tapping is the essence of the BodyTalk method as the process of breathing directly influences the heart and brain functions.  Once the physical systems are harmonized and communicating, optimal health can be obtained.

How is it done?

WHAT A SESSION BODYTALK IS LIKE

After removing any metallic jewelry or personal electronic devices, an individual lies on a massage table for thirty to sixty minutes.

Initially, muscle testing is done to determine the focus of the session. The practitioner asks a series of questions to invite a response from the bodymind.  After this the tapping method begins while the individual takes a series of deep breaths and touches the specified trigger points.  Again, the deep breathing is critical to this process as the intake of oxygen soothes the body, allowing its systems to open.  At the same time this method of breathing assists the mind with its focus and brings into consciousness anything needed to be processed.

After the breathing is established, tapping of the top of the head communicates to the brain to repair the processes taking place at the identified trigger points.  Tapping of the breastbone enables the heart to gather the new information and record it cellularly. This sequence ensures that the new memory will hold, and that particular link or issue won’t have to be balanced out again with regard to that matter, similar to downloading information into a hard drive. According to the work, the system now knows what it needs to do and will continue to do so.

Following these procedures the individual is again muscle tested to detect whether the procedure was effective and will remain stored in the body.  Then additional ailments or dysfunctions may be addressed.  While improved wellbeing may not be instant, complete healing of the specific issue covered may occur in the next several days.  The advantage is that the treatment continues to work for and with the person over time.

Who does it?
