Craniosacral Therapy (CST)- Promoted and based in reserach by the Upledger Institute, this type of bodywork works with the system of containing the spine, the skull, and the cerebrospinal fluid. CST was pioneered and developed by osteopathic physician John Upledger following extensive scientific studies from 1975 to 1983 at Michigan State University, where he served as a clinical researcher and Professor of Biomechanics.
CST is a gentle, hands-on method of evaluating and enhancing the functioning of a physiological body system called the craniosacral system - comprised of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord. Using a soft touch generally no greater than 5 grams, or about the weight of a nickel, practitioners release restrictions in the craniosacral system to improve the functioning of the central nervous system.
By complementing the body's natural healing processes, CST is increasingly used as a preventive health measure for its ability to bolster resistance to disease, and is effective for a wide range of medical problems associated with pain and dysfunction, including:
- Migraine Headaches
- Chronic Neck and Back Pain
- Motor-Coordination Impairments
- Colic
- Autism
- Central Nervous System Disorders
- Orthopedic Problems
- Traumatic Brain and Spinal Cord Injuries
- Scoliosis
- Infantile Disorders
- Learning Disabilities
- Chronic Fatigue
- Emotional Difficulties
- Stress and Tension-Related Problems
- Fibromyalgia and other Connective-Tissue Disorders
- Temporomandibular Joint Syndrome (TMJ)
- Neurovascular or Immune Disorders
- Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
- Post-Surgical Dysfunction
SomaticEmotional Release (SER)- A therapeutic process that uses and expands on the principles of CranioSacral Therapy to help rid the mind and body of the residual effects of trauma, SER locates and releases energy cysts in the body. This type of bodywork can be used to assess and mobilize the Avenue of Expression working through more than 10 different body components, including the thoracic inlet, hard palate and hyoglossal tissues. It also helps to release suppressed emotions that may be inhibiting complete structural releases.
Myofascial Release (MFR)-A gentle form of therapy that produces profound effects throughout the body, Myofascial Release addresses restrictions in the connective tissue, or fascia, of the body. The fascia is an extremely tough tissue that surrounds every muscle, bone, organ, nerve, and blood vessel, down to the cellular level. Fascial restrictions can result from accidents, injuries, repetitive stress situations, surgical or traumatic scarring, and abnormal postures. Any of these traumas can cause the fascial tissue to bind down, exerting abnormal pressures and tensions on pain producing structures.
Myofascial Release is a whole-body therapy. Functionally, the fascial system forms a continuous web from head to toe. Injury to any part of the system can have far-reaching effects on other parts of the body. This helps to explain many individuals' seemingly inexplicable combination of pain complaints. Often times, painful symptoms occur in what might be considered unrelated regions of the body. A basic tenet of Myofascial Release is that no part of the body is separate from the other.
Bio-Energetic Synchronization Technique (BEST)- B.E.S.T. is a physical yet non-forceful, energy-balancing procedure used by the hands to reestablish the full healing potential of the body using its natural healing abilities. B.E.S.T. removes the interference and/or distractions that are demanding the attention of the healing power; thereby causing the imbalance in the autonomic nervous system and ultimately leading to disease. Researched at major universities, taught as an elective in many chiropractic colleges and in professional continuing education seminars, B.E.S.T. is recognized by the industry as an effective healing science.
Energetic Postural Realignment- This modality was developed by Melanie Osborn herself. Through many years of intuitive bodywork sessions, healing yoga sessions and teaching yoga, Melanie noticed that she could teach people how to connect to their body, find their blockages and using energy opening methods, they could open and clear their blockages. She is currently teaching bodyworkers, yoga instructors, martial artists and chiropractors how to clear themselves and to teach others to do the same.
